The next morning Ainsley woke to a weight draped over her waist.
Turning, she came face to face with Braedan and shrieked.
“What are you doing in my bed?” she asked, holding the sheet over her chest.
“It seems you didn’t get around to cleaning the other bedrooms. This was the only clean spot to sleep.”
“But… you can’t just crawl into my bed!”
He grinned. “I believe I can and did.”
A blush stained her cheeks as she took in his bare chest. His body was chiseled, hard. She doubted there was an ounce of fat anywhere on him.
“Please tell me you have something on,” she whispered.
He pushed the covers aside so she could see his boxer briefs.
“Moderately. I guess pajama pants would have been asking for too much?”
“Never wear them.”
She wasn’t surprised. He hadn’t seemed like the type of guy that liked to be bound by lots of clothes.
“Mind if I shower first?” she asked.
Reluctantly, she let go of the sheet. She had on a baby doll nightie made of pink satin that barely covered the tops of her thighs. She knew she was blushing, but it couldn’t be helped. Gathering some clothes out of the dresser, she quietly left the room and went to take her shower.
Locking the bathroom door behind her, she put her stuff down. With shaking hands, she turned on the water. The man completely unnerved her. She’d been with several men before, but none made her feel like Braedan did. Just one kiss and she’d turned into a wanton woman, willing to do anything he asked.
Slipping out of her night clothes, she stepped into the shower. As the water washed over her, she wondered how she’d gotten herself into this mess. She was engaged to an ex-con, a man she’d never met before last night; she was on the run for murder and she was absolutely terrified.
