Writing in today’s world….

Writing in today’s world can be a challenge at times.  I don’t know about you, but I have to work a full-time job to pay the bills.  I write because I love to, not because I want to pay my bills.  Don’t get me wrong, I get a fairly decent royalty check, but it’s not enough to quit my day job.

Women who work full-time, have husband’s, and children running around AND write…. I honestly envy them.  How do they find the time?  The energy?  The brain power??  I have pets…. that’s plenty.  I don’t think I could handle all of the other stuff to go along with the pets, job and writing.  It would just be too much for me to handle.  On top of that, I know a writer who does all of those things and is going back to school… I told her it was time to reserve her room at the looney bin. 🙂

And of course there are men in the same boat… they work, help take care of their kids, help with yard work and what-not… and yet at the end of the day they sit in front of their computers typing away.

Writing isn’t something you do to get rich quick… it’s something you do because you love it.  Anyone who decides to write a book so they can quit their job obviously hasn’t tried to write, and then publish, a work of fiction (or non-fiction) before.  It isn’t something you do easily and it isn’t something that happens over night.  If you thought writing the book was hard, getting it published is even harder!  I think the query letters are harder to write than the stories themselves.

What are your experiences with writing?  How do you juggle all of your daily things (work, home, kids, etc)?
